According to a recent report from Goal, Juventus has agreed to terms with Atletico Madrid to take left-back Guilherme Siqueira on loan for the season.

At the conclusion of the campaign, Juve is obliged to pay €10 million in order to make the deal permanent.

Playing time

It should be pointed out that the Italian giants have yet to agree to a deal with the player, but the Juve brass will nonetheless likely feel confident in persuading the Brazilian to join Max Allegri’s squad due to available playing time.

At the least Siqueira would split starts and playing time with Patrice Evra in Turin, where in Madrid he’d likely be second choice to the recently re-signed Felipe Luis.

A big squad

The Bianconeri possess a tremendously deep squad with multiple options at a number of positions, but left-back is one of the few areas of need seeing as Evra is one of the only natural left-backs on the team.

The other, Paolo de Ceglie, remains on the roster but is unlikely to warrant much usage given his place on the fringes of Allegri’s team. Giorgio Chiellini and Kwadwo Asamoah also have the ability to play left-back, but Chiellini is entrenched as one of the team’s starting center-backs, while Asamoah (once he is fully healthy) may be needed in the midfield where presumed-starter Sami Khedira is set to miss two months after sustaining a thigh injury.

Throw in the fact that Evra is 34, and not likely capable of playing every single week—and it makes sense as to why Juve would target Siqueira.

The latest potential Juve signing would provide the Bianconeri with plenty of experience, having just won the Supercopa Espana and making it to the Champions League Quarter Finals with Atleti. Siqueira also won the domestic treble during his time with Benfica and even has experience in Serie A. The 29-year-old spent time in both Inter and Lazio’s youth systems before earning senior team appearances for Udinese.

Should he agree to terms, Siqueira would provide Allegri with two reliable left-backs to rotate between over the course of the campaign. That depth will be key as Juventus seeks to claim not only the domestic silverware, but the Champions League glory that evaded the team last season.
