Juventus sporting director Giuseppe Marotta has confirmed the club are in the hunt for a new midfielder and, in the process, dismissed talks with German duo Julian Draxler and Mario Götze of Schalke and Bayern Munich respectively.

Exodus of stars

Over the course of the Mercato, three of the club's biggest stars in Arturo Vidal, Andrea Pirlo and Carlos Tevez walked through the exit door at the Juventus stadium.

The club are in desperate need of an attacking midfielder and Marotta backed this up in an interview with Rai Sport saying "We’re looking for a midfielder."

Nobody in particular

Marotta then admitted that the old lady "aren’t following one particular profile, but it must be a player who is of the right calibre for Juventus."

Newspapers in both Italy and Germany have been filled with reports of negotiations between last season's double winners and Bundesliga pair Schalke and Bayern München in recent weeks.

The 58-year-old commented on the matter stating “Götze and Draxler? We only made enquiries, but they didn’t result in any serious negotiations.”

Season starts with a bang

Juventus added their first piece of silverware to the trophy cabinet this season after beating Lazio in the Supercoppa Italiana in Shanghai, China on Saturday.

Goals from newcomers Mario Mandzukic and Paulo Dybala were enough to hand the Bianconeri their seventh overall Supercoppa victory and third in the last five years.

Manager Massimiliano Allegri was keen to heap praise on the goalscorers performances post-match, "Mandzukic is a player of a European pedigree. He's a fighter, while Dybala showed the value of boys who are carefree." He said.

Market is still open

Allegri was then asked about transfers in which he replied with "Some great players have arrived but the market is still open. We will see what happens."

"In order to tackle another big season and build a Juventus that can have a great future, we need the right players; Juventus players."
