Internazionale are targeting Manchester City midfielder Samir Nasri, according to Gazzetta dello Sport.

The Frenchmen worked under Roberto Mancini at Manchester City and, with Raheem Sterling's arrival at the Etihad Stadium this summer, Nasri is said to be seeking a move away. Inter have already secured the services of City forward Stefan Jovetic this window.

The source reports that Mancini's side are willing to land the French international on loan with a mandatory option to buy at the end of the season.

With the reported €35 million accrued from Kovacic's sale, Inter are also looking to wrap up negotiations with VfL Wolfsburg for Ivan Perisic and Real Madrid for Fabio Coentrao.

A replacement for Kovacic

Replacing the Croatian, a fan favourite on the blue side of Milan, will be no easy feat, but Mancini is looking to offset his departure with the arrival of Nasri who, while seven years his senior, possesses similar creative abilities.

The French international was instrumental in his side's title triumph in 2014, netting seven times and laying on a further seven assists as City supplanted Liverpool for top spot during the latter stages of the season.

However, the ex-Arsenal man experienced a turbulent campaign last time out, netting only twice as City relinquished their title to Chelsea.

With the addition of Sterling to the Citizen's ranks, Nasri may be deemed surplus to requirements.

The midfielder was brought to Manchester by Mancini in 2011 and perhaps views the Italian's project in Italy as a way of rejuvenating his career.

Should he arrive before the window slams shut at the end of August, he will join the likes of Jovetic, who, as previously, made the journey from Manchester to Milan, Geoffrey Kondogbia, Joao Miranda, Martin Montoya, Jeison Murillo and Jonathan Biabany.

Inter open their Serie A campaign with a home clash against cellar-dwellars Atalanta next weekend.
