AS Roma have confirmed the capture of France and Paris Saint-Germain left-back Lucas Digne on a season-long loan. The capital club retain the option to buy him permanently at the end of the season and it is reported that PSG have received €2.5million from Roma for his services.

The figure to make his move permanent has yet to be released by the club, but it is speculated to stand at around €15million.

Ashley Cole is said to be close to joining Championship side Derby County after the Giallorossi terminated the Englishman's contract.

Digne solves a problem at left-back

With Cole having waved farewell alongside Jose Holebas - who joined Watford earlier in the summer - Roma's option at left-back now appear sparse.

Vasilis Torosidis, by definition, is able to fill in, but the veteran defender does not offer the attacking qualities Rudi Garcia's side crave.

Digne, despite enduring a torrid spell last year in the French capital, will equip Roma with a potent attacking option down the left, while also being able to track back and help his side defend as a unit.

That the ex-Lille defender was unable to lock down a starting berth under Laurent Blanc speaks volumes of the level of consistency Brazilian full-back Maxwell has shown over the years.

The youngster excited the get going

Speaking to Roma TV after confirmation of his arrival, Digne reitarated his elation at becoming the newest addition to the Garcia project in Roma.

“I chose Roma because it’s an historic club,” said the full-back. "They are also in the Champions League and have very passionate fans, which is very important for me."

Digne is also aware of the "ingredients needed to win" in Roma colours.

The left-back had a breakout season in Ligue 1 under the tutelage of Garcia during his spell at Lille and will be keen to reclaim his spot in the French national side ahead of Euro 2016.
