Last season’s runners-up Juventus will be looking to continue their good start to their Champions League group stage campaign when they take on Sevilla on Wednesday.

Juventus’ tough start

Massimiliano Allegri sides form in the European competition is the only thing that fans of the Old Lady can cling onto as it has been a very slow start for the current Serie A champions.

Juventus managed to pull off an impressive victory in the opening match day as they managed to come from behind to pull off a 2-1 victory over English side Manchester City and Allegri will be hoping that victory here will ignite their league form.

Serie A fiasco

The Turin-based club currently dwindle in 15th position of the table with just one victory from their opening six matches of the campaign with their only three points coming in the 2-0 victory over Genoa.

That victory was sandwiched between draws with Chievo and Frosinone and defeats to Udinese, Roma and came into this clash on the back on another defeat this time to Napoli with goals from Lorenzo Insigne and Gonzalo Higuaín cancelling Mario Lemina’s late effort in their 2-1 defeat.

Similar start

Sevilla’s domestic start has been very similar to their opponents but also like their Italian counterparts, their European form has been their only saving grace as the Europa League champions managed a comfortable 3-0 victory over Borussia Monchengladbach in the opening match day.

Unai Emery’s side are seem to worse off domestically than their opponents as they currently sit in 16th position with the same points total as Juventus with five.

They prepared perfectly for this clash as they managed to get their first three points of the season on their sixth attempt, after draws with Malaga and Levante and defeats to Atletico Madrid, Celta Vigo and Las Palmas their narrow 3-2 victory over Rayo on Saturday is just the confidence that they need

Team news

Juventus will be left without their key duo of Claudio Marchisio and Mario Mandzukic through injury and are expected to be joined on the side-lines by Sami Khedira, Stephan Lichtsteiner and Martin Caceres with the latter suspended after being arrested for drink driving.

Emery is expected to stick with the team that got his side the first three points of the season at the weekend as the reining Europa League champions having a significant absentee list with a grand total of eight players expected to sit out of the trip to Turin.

Juventus will host Sevilla at the Juventus Stadium on Wednesday, September 30 with kick-off at 7:45PM BST.
