Speaking to Spanish media outlet Cadena Ser, striker Alvaro Morata has stated that he talking about renewing his current deal with the Serie A heavyweights. “I’m discussing a contract renewal with Juventus, and everything is going smoothly.”

Favorable news

This is certainly good news for Bianconeri supporters as rumors of Real Madrid wishing to trigger a buy-back clause in Morata’s contract seem to surface on a monthly basis.

The Spaniard hasn’t been the revelation he was last season, with only one goal in 10 domestic appearances. However, Morata is only 23-years-old. In reality, his start to the season may just be a rough stretch. His play in the Champions League also suggests his domestic play is just an anomaly. In four games, Morata has bagged two goals and has averaged 3.3 shots and 1.5 key passes per game.

Long-term success

While good news for Bianconeri supporters, this is also fantastic news for Juventus’ decision makers.

Morata and Paul Pogba are the centerpieces of a burgeoning young core that also includes the likes of Paulo Dybala, Daniele Rugani, Roberto Pereyra, Mario Lemina, Stefano Sturaro, Alex Sandro and Simone Zaza. The young group has a world of potential, and Juve’s brass will be keen to keep them together.

However, with Pogba constantly linked with a move away that looks less than certain. Losing both Pogba and Morata would be a crushing blow for Juventus.

Ample playing time

Despite playing the same position as talented players like Dybala, Zaza and Mario Mandzukic, Morata has the potential to play significantly more minutes in Turin than in Madrid. If the Spaniard transfers to Real, he would be immediately blocked by Cristiano Ronaldo, Karim Benzema and Gareth Bale.

With Juventus, Morata has a chance to lead the line and be a difference maker. He’s already shown his ability to do this countless times, especially in the Champions League last season. However, if he moved to Madrid, Morata would be no more than an impact sub who struggles for minutes.
