Following three nights worth of games in the Coppa Italia this week, the ties for the round of 16 are confirmed and set to be played on Tuesday 16th December.

Lower League sides put up good fights

Spezia saw off Salernitana 2-0 on Monday night, kicking round of 32 action off alongside Torino who dispatched Cesena comfortably winning 4-1 and Milan needed extra-time to see of a valiant Crotone eventually winning 3-1 with Giacomo Bonaventura and M'Baye Niang's extra time goals sending them through.

Undoubtedly the shock of the round belongs to Lega Pro outfit Alessandria who overcame Palermo. The Rosanero were unsettled by an early goal by the vistors and then lost Franco Vazquez before Alessandria extended their lead. Despite Palermo pulling a goal back early in the second half it wasn't enough as Alessandria later restored their two goal lead before Alberto Gilardino's late goal set the tie up for a fiery final few minutes however it was too little too late for the hosts as they would crash out losing 3-2. Struggling Hellas Verona just scraped past Pavia in injury time with thanks to a Claudio Winck goal. Udinese and Atalanta closed out Wednesday nights offerings and it was the former who progress having won 3-1 with Antonio Di Natale starting the goals for the home side just five minutes in.

In the penultimate game of the round, Carpi saw off Vincenza 2-1. Ryder Matos' opener for the hosts was soon added to after veteran Marco Boriello converted a penalty which came as a result of Mario Sampirisi' sending off. Leonardo Gatto, on-loan from Atalanta reduced the deficit to one in the last quarter of an hour but in the end it turned out to be nothing more than a consolation.

Underdogs Cagliari dumped Sassuolo out in the final game of the fourth round with Marco Sau's strike not long before the half proving enough in the end to send the Sardinians through

Tricky Ties for some

While some clubs have been pitted against lower league opposition, others haven't been so lucky and face fellow top flight clubs. However, given some teams struggled to beat these lower league teams this round it will be important for the hosting clubs not to take the game as a formality. The ties are as followed,

Roma - Spezia

Juventus - Torino

Sampdoria - Milan

Genoa - Alessandria

Napoli - Hellas Verona

Lazio- Udinese

Inter - Sas or Cag

Fiorentina - Carpi
