Juventus stamped their tickets to the last eight of the Coppa Italia with an emphatic 4-0 victory over Torino in the campaign's second Derby della Mole.
Much of attention centred around Simone Zaza on the evening as the Italian netted twice yet was, after a series of infringements, fortunate to remain on the field.
Nevertheless, the Juve siege transcended beyond the interval and after the forward was hooked for Paulo Dybala, the Argentine set about extending his side's advantage, curling a sumptuous effort beyond Salvador Ichazo on 72 minutes. Paul Pogba added a fourth with nine minutes to play.
Ebb and flow
Chances were at a premium for both sides during the opening exchanges, with Stephan Lichtsteiner’s delivery, aimed towards a lurking Paul Pogba at the far stick, expertly foiled by the head of Bruno Peres.
Alex Sandro and Bruno Peres, two of the finest full-backs on the peninsula, were trading blows, with the former, on one instance, ghosting past his Brazilian compatriot but being unable to fully scurry away from the Torino man.
Bruno Peres, while reenacting his surging run from 2014 at the J Stadium, was scythed down by Simone Zaza which prompted a caution for the mercurial Italian. Seconds later, his exuberance almost warranted a dismissal after flying into a challenge with Torino goalkeeper Salvador Ichazo.
Torino could, on the evidence of instant replays, feel aggrieved and, as if to compound their ire, Zaza swept home the opener on 27 minutes.
Alvaro Morata, jinxing past the attentions of Emiliano Moretti and Bruno Peres, delivered an unerring centre into the forward who swept a first-time volley beyond Ichazo and into the top corner.
Andrea Belotti fashioned the away side’s first menacing shot at Nolberto Neto’s goal on 35 minutes as Juve maintained their monopoly of the ball.
Zaza, whose ill-advised shove on Kamil Glik may have warranted a second yellow card, tried his luck from distance but Ichazo was equal to his low driven effort.
No sooner had twenty seconds elapsed after the restart did Morata, profiting from a Glik error, prompt fingertips from Ichazo at his near post.
From the ensuing corner, Bonucci prodded the ball into the net but the defender was adjudged to have stood in an offside position.
Having constructed a solitary shot at goal all evening, the visitors’ hopes of mounting an improbable comeback were diminished when Cristian Molinaro, formerly of the Old Lady, received his marching orders for a hare-brained lunge on Lichtsteiner.
Juve punish their rivals
Akin to the pain inflicted on the Granata after Zaza escaped a red in the first-half, from the subsequent free-kick, Torino failed to clear their lines and, after the ball feel invitingly to the feet of the goalscorer, he sashayed inside of Moretti and curled his effort beyond the keeper’ and through the legs of Glik on the goal-line.
The perfect heist was complete when Max Allegri withdrew the former Sassuolo talisman for Paulo Dybala minutes later.
Torino were offered a glimpse of goal when Belotti raced away from the Juve rearguard but, perhaps perturbed by the sliding challenge from Daniele Rugani, making his first start in Juve colours, he crashed his effort into the side netting.
Juve responded with a chance of their own on 61 minutes. Sami Khedira picked out Dybala in space on the edge of the area but the Argentine’s curling effort flashed wide of the post.
Morata threatened minutes later but his bending effort lacked sufficient power.
Dybala, who arrived into this tie having netted in his previous four outings in Serie A, added gloss to the scoreline on 72 minutes, fixing eyes upon Ichazo’s near post before wrong footing the Torino No.1 and curling a sumptuous effort into the far corner.
The visitors miserable evening was compounded nine minutes from time when Pogba curled a scintillating free-kick into the top corner.
