New Roma boss, Luciano Spaletti is said to be looking for defenders to reinforce what, at times this season, has been a shaky defensive line for the capital club.

Sassuolo's Francesco Acerbi and Barcelona's Adriano have been identified as immediate targets with both their respective clubs reportedly happy for talks to go ahead.

The 27-year old Italian is now favoured to Lorenzo Tonelli, whose club Empoli are rightly adamant to lose his services with him being one of their biggest players this season.

Off the market

Empoli's sporting director Marcello Carli confirmed that there was an "important offer" on the table for Tonelli but reiterated that the club have "no intention of losing him" and that he is "off the market" to potential suitors which are a plenty.

Sky Sport Italia say if Roma offer atleast €8 million, Empoli may give in and sell the 25-year-old who has spent his entire career with the Carlo Castellani outfit.

Targets further up the pitch

Roma have been heavily linked with former Milanista Stephan El Shaarawy who has been exiled at Monaco with him being a performance away from the Ligue 1 club having no option but to sign him due to a clause in the contract.

The club confirmed they we're discussing a transfer with a "big Italian club" but went into no further details as to who. Fiorentina have also been linked to him aswell as Genoa and former club Milan, who talks had been confirmed with last week.

Gerson to leave on loan

Gerson joined the Giallorossi in last summer's mercato but was left playing with Fluminense until the turn of the year. Now on Italian soil, Gazetta dello Sport believe that he is headed for minnows Frosinone on loan.

Both clubs have struck a deal as per the publication and all that is needed is confirmation from the Brazilian starlet.

Frosinone have struggled - as expected - to challenge in Serie A and find themselves languising in 18th position, four clear of safety. Goals wise they've not scored the least so the move is somewhat surprising when they've conceeded double the amount and should be targetting defensive reinforcements.
