Fiorentina have extended the loan of Cristian Tello for a further year the Florence club have confirmed as have parent club Barcelona. The player underwent his medical tests yesterday and all that was missing was the confirmation which has now came.

Tello spent the last six months at the Stadio Artemio Franchi and showed glimpses of what was expected of him all those years ago when he first broke onto the scene as a teen. The 25-year-old made 15 appearances in Serie A and scored twice during that spell.

La Viola also have the option to purchase the winger outright at the end of the season but Barcelona have the ability to turn the offer down.

The arrival of Tello certainly combats La Viola's lack of experience outwide and brings further depth to the position too. A starting berth is almost a certainty for the one time Spanish international for the coming season under Paulo Sousa but there is competition there who can displace him.

Valero injury not as bad as first feared

When Borja Valero went down in Fiorentina's 2-1 friendly defeat to Valencia there were big fears that a serious injury had occurred especially when he was then stretchered off. However, Fiorentina have today confirmed that the injury isn't as bad as feared and confirms there is "no bone damage" to the Spaniard's ankle.

They didn't release an expected return date for the club's vice-captain but it's unlikely that he'll feature against champions Juventus on Saturday night when each side kicks off their Serie A season.

With Valero out, summer signing Carlos Sanchez, who arrived on loan from Aston Villa will likely get the nod to come in and replace him alongside Milan Badelj and Matias Vecino.
