Three first half goals sealed the win for Atlético Madrid, but that did not stop the home side from adding to their tally in the second half, and ran out 5-0 winners.

Raúl García struck the first blow. Left completely unmarked in the box, he gently headed the ball past David Cobeno, who would have felt like he could have saved the shot.

Atleti doubled their lead four minutes later, this time through Diego Costa. Arda Turan made a strong run down the left wing and sent in a perfect ball to Diego Costa, who was on hand to strike the ball directly at the goalkeeper, but somehow got past him.

The goal of the match was yet to come. In a remarkable move, a series of quick passes amongst the Atlético frontline resulted in Arda Turan rounding the keeper and smashing home for 3-0. It was a brilliant goal, the highlight of which was Diego Costa’s one-touch assist.

After the interval, Atleti added to their already massive lead. Tiago was able to head in for Atleti’s fourth goal after being picked out by Arda Turan with a cross into the box.

In the dying moments of the match, Raúl García managed to knock in his second goal of the night after some good interplay from Filipe Luis and Koke.

Atlético’s next match will be during midweek against Barcelona in the second leg of the Spanish Super Copa, while Rayo Vallecano will host Levante in a week’s time.
