The first chance of the night came from a Barcelona error, a lapse in concentration by Pinto meant that he kicked the ball straight to an opposition player who quickly played the ball through to David Villa, who sent the ball just wide of the post. A chance missed which should have been taken by the visitors, especially from the ex-Barcelona man. Shortly after, Gerard Piqué was subbed off when he landed uncomfortably in a challenge with Diego Costa, the talented Marc Bartra came on as his replacement. Subsequently it has been revealed that Piqué will be out for up to four weeks with a fractured pelvis, a certain big miss for the Blaugranas. The other man in the challenge, Costa was subbed off at the 30 minute mark after feeling something go in his right hamstring, his replacement was another Brazilian born Diego in the form of Diego Ribas. The next chance of the night fell to Andrés Iniesta, great feet from the unmistakable Lionel Messi fooled Miranda and wrong footed him, allowing space for the Argentinian to thread a ball into Iniesta who came close but an incredible block from Godín made sure that the scores stayed level. Both teams created few chances in the first half, however notable attempts fell to Messi who came close with a header and Neymar who fizzed one just over after a speculative effort from range.

The next big moment in the game would be the first goal. Diego Ribas, the substitute in the first-half hit an absolute thunderbolt which left Pinto wondering. The range and angle at which he hit the ball had everyone stunned, after all it isn't the type of goal you see every day. A moment of genius was all that was needed to seperate the sides and it would take Atlético one step closer to the semi-finals. However this goal seemed to awaken the giant that is FC Barcelona, who seemed asleep for a large portion of the game. The goal forced them to step it up a gear. The chances for them then came thick and fast with a quick exchange between Dani Alves and Neymar sending the right-back behind the defence with a chance to cross, however the referee called a foul on Alves as he pulled back Felipe Luis to get into the position. Iniesta was next up when he received a pass from Fabregas which allowed him to dart into the box, the Spaniard tried to dribble his way through but dived when he was dispossessed; the referee had none of it and waved the 2010 World Cup winner back to his feet. After that it was Busquets' turn, the defensive mid struck a sweet volley with his right foot forcing the young Courtois into full stretch, tipping the ball just wide.

It seemed evident that a change was needed for Barcelona as they couldn't seem to break the deadlock, so the evergreen Andrés Iniesta was moved into the central three after Cesc Fabregas was subbed off in the 68th minute for Alexis Sanchez. Barcelona were now able to switch to a 4-3-3 with a front line of Neymar wide left, Messi in the middle and Sanchez wide right dropping Iniesta back centrally. A wise move from Tata Martino as the resulting equaliser was by way of an incredible piece of skill by Iniesta. He slotted a pin point ball into Neymar who positioned himself correctly, allowing him to hit it first time into the back of the net. The Brazilian superstar, who has had his critics as of late, silenced them all with one deft flick of his boot. The scores were now tied at 1-1.

Great performances from Courtios, Godín, Iniesta and Marc Bartra made sure that the tie was an interesting one despite the low scoreline. The visitors will be pleased with their performance, scoring an away goal and coming away from the Camp Nou with a draw. The away side have it all to do at the Vicente Calderon next week, which should make for an even more exciting match.
