Atletico Madrid are likely to be without their trusted shot-stopper Thibaut Courtois if they draw Chelsea in the semi-finals of the Champions League. The young Belgian is currently in his third loan spell with "Los Rojiblancos" but it has been revealed that a clause was agreed last summer. The clause is that if Chelsea and Atletico Madrid were to play each other, Atletico would have to cough up €3 million if Courtois was to play.

So while Courtois could still feature against his parent club, it seems incredibly unlikely that he will. Atletico president Cerezo has confirmed that the clause does exist. Speaking to Spanish radio Onda Cero, he said: "It is a figure that we cannot pay."

This will come as a massive blow to Simeone and his men. "El Cholo" would have to turn to his second-choice goalkeeper who is 34 year old Dani Aranzubia, who has featured just once in La Liga this season. He in an incredibly poor 'keeper, especially when compared to Courtois. The last time Aranzubia featured for Altetio was during the 2-0 loss to Alemeria. He was inevitably to blame for both of the goals conceded and then got himself sent off. Imagine him facing the likes of Hazard, Oscar and Eto'o? The 34 year old would likely scupper any hopes Diego Simeone has of doing the double with Atletico.
