The speculation is over Carlos Vela is staying in Spain with Real Sociedad after signing a new four-year contract this morning. Arsenal were certainly interested in signing him, but clearly fell short.

So, is this a good move for Vela? Or a good move for Arsenal

Vela claimed a few weeks ago that he was "Never really happy in London" during his time at Arsenal. He never really felt that he was given a full opportunity to showcase his talent. That opportunity was presented to him by Real Sociedad, a club which he now calls "Home" and where he's enjoyed his best seasons in professional football.

It seems as if Arsenal were indeed interested in their former player and they were very keen to bring him back to the club after he left in 2011 a big draw was the buy back clause in his contract for around £3M. All Arsenal needed was the players consent to return but that's what they missed out on. He's found his best form at Sociedad and also feels appreciated by the clubs and it's fans. With the possible departure of Antoine Griezmann this summer, Vela could become Sociedad's saviour.

Vela has also been used in his favoured position at Sociedad, just off the main striker, sometimes out towards the right wing. This way Vela sees much more of the ball and is able to impact games on a regular basis. Let's acknowledge the season Vela has had too. It's nothing short of impressive. 35 appearances in La Liga this season, 16 goals and 12 assists. He missed just three matches in the league, and proved clinical and decisive in securing Europa League football at the Anoeta next season.

With Vela signing a new deal, the question is, who's the winner in all this? Arsenal haven't secured their target and Vela isn't playing Champions League football next season, but he's very happy with the club he's at.

Despite this, Arsenal have been very clever. They've recieved around £8M from Vela staying at Sociedad. They may not have got their man, but they've got a good price for him, money they could use in this window.

Maybe they'll go for his team-mate, Antoine?
