New signing and striker Mario Mandzukic scored the fastest goal in Spanish Super Cup history, as Atlético beat their Madrid rivals with a 1-0 win to take their first piece of silverware before the season got underway.

Real Madrid had all their superstars on-show during the game, but they were not good enough to keep out the advances of the home side in the end; and they struggled to get past their defence in truth. Their defending was exploited at times and they were punished, as Atlético took their chance clinically whilst Real were panicking in search of an equaliser.

Atlético Madrid:

Moyá - 6.5/10. Did well to keep a clean sheet and stopped anything that came at him, including efforts from Bale and Ronaldo either side of half-time.

Siqueira - 6/10. Improved performance from the first leg, did well to contain Bale on the flank and was good defensively.

Godin and Miranda - 6/10. Just a normal game for the defensive pairing, as they were able to clear danger away and stop the forward advances of Bale, Ronaldo & Co.

Juanfran - 6/10. Did his job well as he stopped forward runs from the Real attacking players and they struggled to deliver any crosses in the end.

Koke - 6/10. For all of his attacking flair, he struggled to get past Carvajal on the flank and could not deliver anything of note.

Tiago - 6/10. Despite getting a yellow card earlier in the game, he was not afraid to break up the play in midfield and Real struggled to get past him in truth.

Raúl Garcia - 7/10. One of the best performers on the night, created Mandzukic's goal and was unlucky not to make it 2-0 with a flick-on which hit the crossbar off a Griezmann delivery in the first-half.

Gabi - 7/10. Lead his team out well and had an inspiring performance, working hard in midfield.

Griezmann - 6/10. Created the assist for Mandzukic's goal and was solid tracking back defensively but struggled to do else attacking-wise.

Mandzukic - 7/10. Proved a real handful for the Real defence, his power and eye for goal was too much to handle as he scored the opener within 2 minutes of kick-off and caused Varane and Ramos problems throughout the game.

Subs:

Saúl, Rodriguez and Jiménez - N/A. Atlético's three substitutes came on late in the game, as they looked eager to settle for a 1-0 victory over their rivals.

Real Madrid:

Casillas - 6.5/10. Was unable to dive low enough to stop Mandzukic's effort early on, but made some good individual saves when he could not solely rely on his team-mates for defensive cover.

Carvajal - 6.5/10. Did well at the back to cover Bale's runs down the wing and was strong to stop Koke's influence on the game.

Coentrao - 4.5/10. Was not involved in the match as much, and lost the ball too many times.

Varane - 5/10. Defensively was solid, but in the air lacked strength or direction as he was beaten by Mandzukic on a number of occasions.

Ramos - 4/10. Was beaten to the ball initially as the chance came for Mandzukic's goal and struggled to defend properly, giving away the ball.

Alonso - 5/10. Slowed down the tempo of the game whenever he had possession of the ball, but needed to speed up the play.

Kroos - 6/10. The pass master was unable to weave his magic and create any chances of note as Real failed to get back into the match.

Modric - 5.5/10. Worked hard in the midfield, but was unlucky to be dismissed, having got a second yellow card in stoppage time.

Bale - 6.5/10. The Welshman was involved in the game and had a few half-chances, thanks to passes from Rodriguez. Narrowly wide misses, as he was unable to help his side get back into the game.

Rodriguez - 7/10. Did well to create space in the middle, and opened up the Atlético defence at times with his through ball passes.

Benzema - 5/10. The French striker was unable to get any of the ball throughout the match and therefore struggled to have any real chances on-goal.

Subs:

Marcelo and Isco - 5.5/10. Both came on towards the end of the match, but could not offer anything in terms of "super sub" material.

Ronaldo - 6/10. Came on in the second-half, but was unable to make much of a mark on the game despite having a few efforts on-goal. Got a yellow card towards the end as well, probably in frustration.
