Villarreal centre-back Mateo Musacchio has claimed to have turned down a move to Tottenham in the summer transfer window, because the terms set were unacceptable for both him and his club.

And according to reports in Spain, he was quick to ensure that no agreement was made between the two parties as he is eager to stay in Spain with Villarreal - happy where he is.

He told Spanish news outlet Estadio Deportivo: "I'm fine here, I never said I wanted to leave and I never forced the situation. This is my home, I've been here since I was very young; I am comfortable here and for that reason I didn't feel the need to leave.

When you get offers they have to be good for the club and for the player but in this case it wasn't good enough for either, so in the end it didn't happen and I'm carrying on here. My head is here, I am always certain that I would continue to give 100%, like I always have."

Spurs ended up failing to sign another defender, having already bought young Eric Dier from Sporting Lisbon - despite being linked with Fazio after Villarreal rejected their offer.
