Real Sociedad have confirmed talks with former Manchester United manager David Moyes about the vacant managerial role at San Sebastián. Moyes is one of a number of managers linked with the role after the sacking of Jagoba Arrasate a number of days ago. Real Sociedad president Jokin Aperribay said on Monday that there are four managers on La Real's shortlist, and David Moyes is one of them. Pepe Mel is another manager linked, having been without a job since leaving West Bromwich Albion at the end of last season.

David Moyes has had a fairly successful managerial career despite not winning any major trophies thus far. After four years at Preston North End, Moyes was appointed as manager of Everton, replacing Walter Smith. The 51-year old took a Merseyside club on the brink of relegation and turned them into top 6 contenders in the league, finishing fourth in 2005. He also reached the FA Cup final in 2009, where his side lost 2-1 to Chelsea.

His time at Manchester United was a lot less successful, and very short-lived. Nicknamed 'The Chosen One' after Sir Alex Ferguson picked Moyes as his replacement, he signed a six-year contract in May 2013. After a difficult pre-season, he won the Community Shield thanks to a Robin van Persie double. However, the side struggled massively in the league, finishing in seventh place, their lowest in Premier League history. Cup runs were also disappointing, knocked out in the third round of the FA Cup, quarter-final of the Champions League and losing to Sunderland in the semi-final of the Capital One Cup.

Should he get the job, Moyes will be taking over a Real Sociedad side who have made one of their worst starts to a La Liga season. Reeling after the sales of Claudio Bravo and Antoine Griezmann in the early stages of the summer, Sociedad have just one win in their opening 10 games in the league; an exceptional comeback against Real Madrid, having been 2-0 down inside 9 minutes. However, the Basque side have been knocked out of the Europa League without making the group stages, and sit second-bottom in La Liga

Moyes could be in charge of La Real as early as this weekend, in which case, his first match would be against last season's champions, Atlético Madrid. Should he get the job after the international break, a trip to Deportivo la Coruña is on the cards.
