La Liga takes a back seat this midweek with all eyes on the Copa del Rey as twenty-eight teams do battle in a bid to join Real Madrid and Sevilla in the last sixteen.

The first legs were played two weeks ago but there is still plenty to play for with no fewer than ten of the first legs being drawn or won by the odd goal.

Las Palmas look to have the best chance of causing an upset as the Segunda leaders beat Celta Vigo 2-1 in the first leg. The other sides who managed a home draw with higher division opposition are Albacete (Levante), Alcoyana (Athletic Bilbao), Valladolid (Elche) and Oviedo (Real Sociedad).

Barcelona, Atletico Madrid and Espanyol look to be in a comfortable position after recording wins away to Huesca (4-0), L'Hospitalet (3-0) and Alaves (2-0), respectively. Should Atletico avoid a stunning turnaround in their tie they will play city rivals, Real in the next round.

Cadiz and Real Betis will believe they can cause problems for higher division opposition after competing well in the first legs. Cadiz lost 2-1 to Villarreal and Real Betis lost 4-3 Almeria. Both may find things tougher away from home but the ties are certainly not beyond them.

Finally there are four all La Liga ties. Getafe look well placed after a 3-0 home win over Eibar but the others are well balanced. Malaga will host Deportivo La Coruna having drawn 1-1 in the first leg. Valencia will expect to go through at the expense of Rayo Vallecano having won the away game 2-1 and Granada will play Cordoba away hoping to protect a 1-0 lead on their travels.

The ties will be played over Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday this week and VAVEL will bring news of any upsets.
