Before the Club World Cup started, Real Madrid were the heavy favorites to win this competition and after a 4-0 thumping over Mexican club Cruz Azul in the semi-finals, the Champions League winners are world champions as they push aside San Lorenzo with goals from Sergio Ramos and Gareth Bale.

Early on in the match, it was like any other cup final that Madrid is involved in as the opposition want to try to push the Spanish capital club around but are unable to do so because Los Blancos are just too physical and are able to impose their will.

San Lorenzo had very few chances throughout the 90 minutes with their best chance of the evening coming late on as Juan Mercier forced Iker Casillas to dive to his right to punch the ball away. Other than that, however, the Argentine club just could not really string a could amount of possession together as Real Madrid were constantly putting pressure on them and filling in the passing lanes.

In the fifth minute of play, Cristiano Ronaldo was able to get a shot away which forced Sebastian Torrico to make a good save. James played a beautiful ball through to Gareth Bale, but the Welshman we deemed to be offside, with 14 minutes gone off of the clock.

French striker Karim Benzema tried a shot from outside of the box, but it was straight to the San Lorenzo goalkeeper right before the half an hour mark. Real Madrid would finally break through seven minutes later off of a corner as Sergio Ramos came racing through the box and headed the ball powerfully into the back of the net.

Veteran defender Mario Yepes had a good chance a couple of minutes after the restart, but header was a just bit too high and Iker Casillas would have had it covered too if the ball was on target. Bale would leave his mark on this tournament as he swung his leg at the ball inside of the eighteen yard box, and unfortunately, Torrico fumbled the ball and the ball squirted behind him to double Madrid's lead.

From that moment on, the South American champions looked to lose all confidence and looked incredibly deflated because they knew that there was no chance for them to come back and win. Six minutes after the hour mark, though, Emmanuel Más had a left footed effort that was stopped well by Casillas.

In the 84th minute, Enzo Kalinski had his shot stopped by Casillas as well and that was really all they could muster as time was slowly coming to an end and San Lorenzo's dream of being World Champions was crushed by the Spanish powerhouse.
