Fernando Torres scored a brace as Atletico Madrid knock out the Copa del Rey holders Real Madrid in a thrilling 2-2 draw at the Bernabeu.

Atletico got of to the perfect start as Fernando Torres opened the scoring within 53 seconds of the derby. Griezmann picked the ball up from inside the Real Madrid half and the Frenchman burst into the Real penalty box and manages to pick out Torres inside the box and the Spaniard finishes the ball beautifully past Keylor Navas to give Atletico the lead. Despite an early goal, Atletico struggled to get the ball of Real Madrid in the opening 45 minutes, Bale came close to getting an equaliser in the 6th minute when Carvajal sent in a great cross, which found Bale however his header was well saved by Oblak.

Ronaldo had a great chance to level the game with a close range effort from a Kroos corner but the shot was well saved again by Oblak, however a minute later Sergio Ramos equalised for Los Blancos in the 19th minute. Toni Kroos whipped in a good costless-kick and Oblak timed his run terribly and the Slovenian keeper collapsed to the ground and Ramos leaped like a salmon and headed the high ball into an open net to make it all square. Ronaldo again had a brilliant chance to score but Mario Suarez brilliantly blocked the ball to prevent the Ballon d’Or winner from giving Real the lead. Real continued their onslaught on the Atletico defence but nothing could penetrate the back 4, Marcelo came close with a long-range shot that was comfortably saved by Oblak in the 43rd minute.

The second half kicked off and this time it only took Torres 36 seconds to score. Griezmann again ran through on goal and laid off the ball to Torres, the former Chelsea outcast cut the ball inside to beat a sliding Pepe and the Spaniard clinically slot the ball under Navas to make it 2-1 to the visitors. In the 50th minute Atletico where though again after some poor defending from Ramos resulted in Torres losing the ball to Pepe, but the lose ball rolled Griezmann who’s shot from 6-yards-out was well saved by Navas.

Real Madrid pulled one back through Ronaldo after a good one-two with Bale and Marcelo saw Bale whipping in a short cross on the edge of the box to Ronaldo and the Portuguese winger headed the ball past Oblak and Godin to make the game all square again. Pepe was taken off after Garcia injured the defender in the 56th minute. Benzema missed a golden opportunity to give Real the lead when his shot from a couple of yards out blazed high over the bar for a goal kick. Isco had one final chance to get something against their Madrid rivals but his close range shot went into the arms of Oblak. Atletico will face Barcelona in the next round of the Copa del Rey.
