Sergio and his men left things late in the match, but the super substitute, Felipe Caicedo produced an excellent strike in the 90th minute, at the Power8 Stadium in Cornella de Llobregat to win all three points for the home side. This win for Espanyol moved them up to into the top half of the table, one spot above Rayo Vallecano as they have a better goal differential.

Espanyol were dominate and controlled most of the match throughout the entire ninety minutes of play. Although only three shots were on target, Los Blanquiazules produced a whopping 15 attempts. The first attempt came with just five minutes off of the clock as José Cañas ripped a shot from beyond twenty yards, but it never troubled the Celta goalkeeper. Celta de Vigo rarely saw much of the ball and when they did string a few passs together because the hosts pressured when they needed to and made sure that they had footballers in the passing lanes.

If Celta were going to any offense going in this match, it was going to come from Michael Krohn-Dehli. In the 26th minute of play, the aforementioned Krohn-Dehli tried to release Nolito, but the forward was caught in an offside position. Again, the Dane tried to provide an offensive spark, but it was Pablo Hernandez who was offside this time around just a couple of minutes later. They finally got their first shot off with nine minutes left to go before the half as Nolito found Joaquin Larrivey down the left side, but his effort was blocked. In fact, Larrivey would get both of his clubs chances in the second half, unfortunately, Casilla was up to the task.

14 minutes after the restart, Espanyol would get their first good look at target with Lucas Vázquez finding Sergio Garcia, but the end product was blocked. Chances would come few and far between for the rest of the match and it would look like the home side would not get the points that they fully and completely deserved from this match. That was until Felipe Caicedo struck. The ball was whipped into the box from the right, Garcia got his head to hit and it bounced off of Gustavo Cabral's backside and fell straight to the feet of the goal scorer and he knew what to do with the ball.
