Gimenez has shown fantastic potential for Atletico this season and once again he was on top form as the champions beat Granada 1-0. Gimenez had 4 tackles, 6 interceptions, 2 clearances and a blocked shot.

CB - Gustavo Cabral (Celta Vigo) 29 years old

Celta lost to Espanyol but Cabral did not deserve to be on the losing side. He had 2 tackles, 5 interceptions, 10 clearances and 2 blocked shots but it wasn't enough to secure points for Celta and they are now nine games without a win.

CM - James Rodriguez (Real Madrid) 23 years old

James started slowly for Real but he has really grown into Carlo Ancelotti's team and was excellent again as they beat Getafe 3-0. He set up two goals, completed 65 passes and also contributed defensively with 3 tackles and an interception.

Atletico struggled against Granada and relied a lot more on their defence than expected. Gabi was a key factor and had 6 tackles, 2 interceptions, 1 clearance and a blocked shot. He also completed 65 passes.

CM - Ivan Rakitic (Barcelona) 26 years old

The Croatian has had a mixed season since joining Barcelona in the summer but he was sublime in their 4-0 win over Deportivo La Coruna. He set up two goals and completed 92.1% of his 63 passes.

RF - Lionel Messi (Barcelona) 27 years old

Messi lost out on the Ballon d'Or to long term rival Cristiano Ronaldo but the little Argentinian has made an excellent start to 2015. Messi scored a hat trick in Barcelona's 4-0 win over Deportivo and looks to be getting back to top form.

CF - Carlos Bacca (Sevilla) 28 years old

Sevilla beat fellow Andalusians Malaga 2-0 and Bacca played a key role. The Colombian striker scored one and set one up as Sevilla moved back into fourth in La Liga.

LF - Cristiano Ronaldo (Real Madrid) 29 years old

Cristiano Ronaldo has had a rollercoaster week by winning the Ballon d'Or before getting knocked out of the Copa del Rey by Atletico but he finished the week on a high with two goals as Real beat Getafe 3-0.
