Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti was heavily critical of his side's attitude as well as their overall performance during their 4-0 thumping defeat against city rivals Atlético yesterday afternoon, claiming that his players "failed at everything."

Goals from Tiago, Saul Niguez, Antoine Griezmann and Mario Mandzukic culminated in a rather famous victory for Diego Simeone's men at the Caldéron

STAT: Real have now failed to beat Atlétí in any of their six meetings so far in the 2014-15 campaign, and if Barcelona beat Bilbao tonight, their La Liga lead will close to just one point at the top of the table.

Ancelotti said: "It is easy to analyse this game because Atletico were better in every facet of the game: they fought more, had more quality on the ball, had better organisation, everything. We failed at everything, we lost all the tackles, all the high balls - we didn't have one player who played well. It is the worst game we have played since I have been coach (of the club). We will reflect on it in the coming days with a cool head. We will suffer a lot from this defeat, but we need to change this attitude and avoid it happening in another game in the future."

Meanwhile, World Player Of The Year Cristiano Ronaldo, who made his return after a two-match ban for violent conduct, said the following: "Real Madrid cannot lose 4-0 against anyone; we lacked desire, attitude, everything. This can serve as a lesson for the future. We are still leaders, but we know we have to fight until the end."

STAT: Atlético's 4-0 win means this is their first league double over Real since 1951.

Simeone commented: "I thank the players for the afternoon that they let us experience, I always insist that the players are the most important people. Today, their capacity to understand what we needed and execute it was fantastic.
