According to AS, Barcelona midfielder Xavi Hernandez will quit the Catalan club and join Qatari side Al Sadd SC this summer.

The 35-year-old's deal with Al Sadd will see him earn 10 million euros annually on a three year contract, with the option of extending the deal to a fourth season.

Xavi has been heavily linked with a move to the United States over the past year, after rumours circulated the New York Red Bulls and New York City FC were after the services of the longtime Barcelona man.

Xavi emerged from Barcelona’s famous academy at La Masia, making his breakthrough into the senior side in 1998. One of football’s most prolific midfielders since then, Xavi has been a central figure of Barca’s European success. The Spaniard has won seven Liga titles, two Copa del Reys, and three Champions Leagues.

He’s also been a key figure of Spain’s recent rise to dominance on the world stage, helping his country capture two consecutive Euro titles along with the 2010 World Cup.

However, he has seen limited playing time at Camp Nou in the past 12 months, with new comer Ivan Rakitic impressing management enough to demote Xavi to the substitutes bench.
