21:43. 10 men Atletico Madrid push their rivals to the very end as they bow out of the competition, but Real Madrid join Barcelona,  Bayern Munich  and Juventus who also won 1-0 on aggregate after a 0-0 draw in Monaco. 

21:38. A late Javier Hernandez goal has sent Real Madrid through 1-0 on aggregate and break the hearts of the 3,000 travelling away supporters as well as many watching all over the world.

19:43. A wonderful atmosphere welcomes both Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid as the Champions League anthem belts around the Santiago Bernabeu.

19:22. We're just over 20 minutes until the eagerly anticipated Madrid derby in the Champions League. Team news to follow...

18:35. The last meeting between the two La Liga giants was last week's 0-0 draw in the first leg but when the two met in the league Atletico Madrid won 4-0 over Real Madrid with goals from Tiago, Saul, Antoine Griezmann and Mario Mandzukic.

18:32. Real Madrid midfielder Toni Kroos had this to say about the referee who has a huge part to play: “I am going to talk to him before the game so that he doesn't give me a yellow card [laughs]," Kroos said. "He is a German referee and is very good, and will do a great job. He already know what to expect."

18:31. Real Madrid will feel that home advantage should push them over the line. The Santiago Bernabeu holds over 80,000 fans and the home supporters will be doing all they can to see their team into the semi finals.

18:30. Diego Simeone had this to say: 'We had a training session yesterday with two groups where we were making changes and he was fine. We now have another training session where we expect him to be okay and I will base my plan, which I have fairly clearly in mind, around that.'

18:28. Atletico Madrid will be without suspended Mario Suarez for the short trip to the Bernabeu, with Mario Mandzukic also a doubt for the tie with an ankle injury.

18:27. Carlo Ancelotti added this: "I have the best squad in the world and it is important to focus on the players who are going to play and not on those who are not playing.”

18:26. Real Madrid are without a number of star players as Gareth Bale, Karim Benzema and Luka Modric are all ruled out through injury whilst left-back Marcelo is out through suspension. Modric suffered a knee ligament strain in the win over Malaga at the weekend and is likely to be out for the remainder of the season. Bale is suffering from a calf injury whilst Benzema is out with a knee injury.

18:21. Real Madrid are in strong form and so is Cristiano Ronaldo. Atletico Madrid will need to keep an eye on the tricky forward to make sure he doesn’t cause upset for Atletico Madrid once more.

18:20. The visitors are unbeaten in the last seven against Real Madrid, but there is a lot up for grabs tonight and it is important that they get the away goal because if they don’t score than they won’t be making it to any semi finals.

18:18. Atletico Madrid need to be wary of their opponents tonight and understand that Real Madrid, despite recent results again them are still a strong team and can cause damage, just like they did in the 2014 UEFA Champions League final last May.

Diego Simeone, the Atletico Madrid manager had this to say: ‘For us at Atletico, we are competing against two teams with the obligation of winning the Champions League,’ he said. ‘At the very least, Madrid and Barcelona are among the last eight in Europe every season and usually the last four, so for Atletico to win La Liga last season was a tremendous achievement

18:15. Carlo Ancelotti on injuries: “We have to live with injuries. We've had them before and for important games. Bale, Cristiano and Alonso weren't available for important games last season. I'm convinced that the squad is in good shape and fresh."

18:10. Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti: ‘It will be an even game and hard-fought in every aspect. Atlético are under no pressure to score quickly and neither are we. We intend to play well from start to finish’

18:08. Many will remember the 2013 Copa del Rey final where Atletico Madrid were victorious over Real Madrid in a 2-1 win after extra time. Cristiano Ronaldo and Diego Costa scored in normal time, but Miranda scored for Atletico Madrid to earn victory which was played at the home of Real Madrid.

18:04. The final in May last year was a memorable one for the neutral as a late Sergio Ramos header cancelled out Diego Godin’s earlier goal to send the game to extra time before Real Madrid turned on the style as Gareth Bale, Marcelo and Cristiano Ronaldo added goals to win 4-1.

18:01. Real Madrid have not beaten rivals Atletico Madrid since the UEFA Champions League final back in May 2014 which saw the hosts win 4-1 to attain their 10th trophy in the competition. Four wins and three draws for Atletico Madrid prove that they can still pose a massive threat to anyone in Europe, especially their great rivals.

17:58. Antoine Griezmann’s brace helped Atletico Madrid keep up the heat in third place with a 2-1 away win to La Liga outfit Deportivo La Coruna.

17:56. Atletico Madrid make a 12 mile trip to city rivals Real Madrid this evening looking to seal yet another win over their opponents to progress to the semi-finals of the Champions League.

17:54. Real Madrid come into the game after an impressive 3-1 win over Malaga on Saturday with Cristiano Ronaldo netting his 50th goal of the season. Despite failing to covert a penalty, Ronaldo added a third goal in added time to keep Real Madrid in the chase for the title. Goals from Sergio Ramos and James Rodriguez helped Real Madrid get all three points.

17:52. In the Vincente Calderon last week, the first leg ended 0-0 meaning that this showdown in Madrid tonight is all to play for.
