Mexico national team manager Miguel Herrera feels that Manchester United forward Javier Hernández should not remain at current loan club Real Madrid in order to ensure regular playing time.

Hernández has struggled for opportunities since moving to the Santiago Bernabéu last summer, but a recent hot streak of goalscoring has had some suggesting that he could remain at the club beyond the end of the season.

Another factor which comes into the picture is the revelation that Madrid's first-option clause on the forward expires at the end of this Thursday, with Hernández himself having allegedly told his agent that "you can't say no" to Los Blancos.

But his popular national team manager Herrera believes that a move to a smaller club would be the most beneficial for 'Chicharito' himself, as the 26-year-old looks to catch up to Jared Borgetti as Mexico's all-time top goalscorer.

“Perhaps he should think about going to a smaller but still important club, where he would be a regular starter and can show what a great striker he really is,” Herrera said in an interview with Marca.

“I’m not surprised he played very little before because the competition at a club such as Madrid is enormous, but Javier is a striker who even without playing has progressed a lot.”

Hernández has made 26 appearances in total for the Spanish giants this season, the majority of which have come from the bench. His loan spell away from Manchester has yielded eight goals, three of which have come in the last week.

However, with first-choice forward Karim Benzema out with a knee injury, he seized his opportunity with the winning goal in Madrid's 1-0 Champions League victory over neighbours Atlético.
