Atletico Madrid will be looking to ensure straight qualification to the UEFA Champions League group stages, as they travel to relegation-threatened Granada on the final day of the 2014-15 La Liga season.

Diego Simeone's side have struggled to hit the heights they achieved last season, when they achieved their first league title triumph in 18 years and reached the final of the Champions League, before losing to rivals Real Madrid - who also knocked them out of the competition this year in the last eight stage.

But despite having lost a number of first-team players, including the trio of Filipe Luis, Diego Costa and Thibaut Courtois all to Premier League champions Chelsea, Atleti have enjoyed another successful season to put themselves in pole position for another lucrative berth in Europe's top-flight, thanks in part to successful summer signings such as Antoine Griezmann and Mario Mandzukic.

But the job is far from done, with high-flying Valencia lurking only three points behind them in fourth. Los Che, who play away to lowly Almeria, are also only one point above Europa League finalists Sevilla, who sit in fifth on 73 points before a trip to rivals Malaga. Unai Emery's are expected to play a weakened team with their prospect of retaining their European crown next week likely to be occupying their minds, which may give Valencia the upper hand.

But Simeone's side will have to be wary of an in-form Granada who will be equally as eager to take the three points, sitting just two points clear of the drop zone.

Cordoba's fate is already sealed, whilst two of  Almeria, Eibar, Deportivo La Coruna and Granada will be certain to join them in the Segunda Division next year.

But José Ramón Sandoval's side are one of the favourites to stay up, having won all of their last three, scoring seven of their total tally of 29 goals in the process.

Atletico, meanwhile, handed the crown to Luis Enrique's Barcelona as they lost 1-0 at the Vicente Calderón last weekend, bringing to end an impressive 13-game unbeaten run.

The visitors will need at least a draw in Andalusia to ensure they don't have to steer themselves through a potentially tricky Champions League third qualifying round whilst Granada need only a point to secure their safety without having to rely on other results.

Pre-match quotes:

Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone: "For others, perhaps the Spanish Super Cup is a lesser title, but this team had only won one in its history. And we have won the second one, so it is not so little. But we are well, competing our championship with Sevilla and Valencia, we are three points ahead of this last one, pending one match. And with Sevilla close behind Valencia. The round of the coming week will be nice, with lots of adrenaline in all fields which are playing playing not to be relegated and the Champions League. We still depend on ourselves and at the beginning of the season we would probably have signed to be as we are now."

Atletico Madrid midfielder Koke: "I will say that the season has been very good if we are third after Saturday's game is over. There have been changes, the team has responded well and has known how to compete. If we are third we will keep fighting for trophies next season."

Atletico Madrid midfielder Tiago: "It's hard to think, that a match can define a season but it's true that this point is very important to us. Being third is not the same as being fourth and we are aware that it's going to be very difficult, that we're going to play a very complicated match against a rival that also needs the points. It's crucial for us to finish third."

Granada midfielder on-loan from Atletico Ruben Perez: "It's the most important game of the season and we have to win, so the more players available to play better. We will try to make it a long game by not conceding a goal, and then we use that to try and get three points. Our idea is to continue as we have played in these last few games and go for victory, pushing up trying not to lose the ball and we have to take advantage. We have a number of consecutive victories which for us is morally very important. Now we are have one final game to stay up and that is our goal. After the game starts we need to focus on winning or score to achieve that goal."

Granada midfielder Manuel Iturra: "We have to see the match against Atletico Madrid positively. A few days ago nobody gave a peso for us. Few people believed we would be in this situation and it is a favorable one because we depend absolutely on us. We did something we have not done all year to win three games, score more than one goal. Winning away from home is not easy in Anoeta but that is what we have done. On Saturday, we are in our stadium, we know that we will have much support. They go out to win and attack because they are Atletico Madrid and I think it will be a very entertaining game for both of us because we are both playing for very important things."
