According to reports in Spain, Elche may not be the only La Liga side to be demoted this season with Getafe in danger of joining them in the Segunda.

Getafe finished 16th in La Liga in a turbulent season that saw them go through three managers. They started with Cosmin Contra but the Romanian left the club in December to take over at Ghangzhou R & F FC. Quique Sanchez Flores replaced him but lasted less than eight weeks before they promoted ‘B’ team coach, Pablo Franco for the remainder of the season. Franco has since been removed from the first team post and offered his old job back.

It is believed Getafe owe €13m to the Spanish tax office and they have been given until June 30th to pay the debt.

The club’s President Angel Torres has been actively seeking an investor who would pay the bill in return for what would be a majority share in the club but he has had no success to date and it appears he now has less than a month or the club will suffer a similar fate to Elche.
