In what could be one of his final acts as Barcelona president, Josep Maria Bartomeu has confirmed Luis Enrique has signed a new contract.

There has been speculation for most of Enrique's tenure that he would be leaving the club but just days after leading the team to their second treble he has agreed to extend his current contract for an extra year and he is now contracted to the Catalan giants until 2017.

Enrique looked to be on his way out of the club in January when he had a rather public falling out with Lionel Messi but the pair managed to put their differences behind them to win La Liga, the Copa del Rey and the Champions League within five months. The pair will join forces again next year as Barcelona attempt to retain their titles as well as trying to win the Spanish and European Super Cup's and World Club Cup.

Bartomeu is now expected to announce his resignation as Barcelona president ahead of elections this summer where he will attempt to be elected as club president for the first time after stepping up from vice-president to replace Sandro Rossell when he resigned in January 2014.
