Luciano Vietto is on the verge of joining Atletico Madrid this summer with his agent holding talks ahead of a transfer.

Vietto has been linked with a move to the Premier League since he signed for Villarreal last summer but the Argentine has decided that he wants to work with Diego Simeone, having played under the Atletico coach for Racing Club in their native Argentina. Simeone will have known what Vietto was capable of before this season but he got a particularly poignant reminder when Vietto scored a late winner for Villarreal at the Calderon just before Christmas. Had Atletico avoided defeat in that game they would have ended 2014 without losing at home.

Vietto ended the season with 20 goals in all competitions for El Submarino Amarillo in what was an excellent first season in Europe. The 21 year old looks to have a big future in the game and with rumours suggesting Mario Mandzukic will leave Atleti it looks like Vietto is the man who Simeone will entrust with leading the front line.

Vietto's release clause stands at €20 million and it is thought Atletico are happy to pay that amount for a man Simeone and the club believe to be one of the world's best young strikers.
