Recently-relegated Cordoba have reportedly appointed a new manager who they believe will get them back into La Liga in former Levante and Elche midfielder, Jose Luis Oltra.

Reports in Spain suggested that Oltra and the club held an extended meeting in Seville over a several-day period where they ironed out a deal, and Oltra is now expected to be unveiled on Wednesday.

The 46-year-old already has experience with bringing sides back into the top flight of Spanish football, having achieved the feat with Deportivo La Coruna only two years ago.

Since that success, Oltra’s coaching record has taken a slight turn for the worse as he has failed to help both Mallorca and Recreativo de Huelva with their promotion targets, but both he and Cordoba fans will now be hoping that he can recapture his winning ways at the Estadio Nuevo Arcangel.

This appointment will end a month-long saga for Cordoba’s search for a new coach, with ten candidates at some point or other reportedly having been considered for the job. However, this will not be the first time that the club have attempted to snap up Oltra, as club president Carlos Gonzalez tried to sign him two seasons ago.

It is new beginnings all around the club as they will begin the 2015/16 season in the second tier of Spanish football after a disastrous campaign in the top flight. Cordoba finished rock bottom of La Liga with just 20 points to their name, winning three games, drawing 11 and losing 24.

They were also the lowest-scoring team in the league with just 22 strikes in their 38 league games and had the joint-worst defence in the division, tied with Rayo Vallecano on 68 goals conceded.
