French winger Gael Kakuta arrived at Chelsea as one of the most exciting prospects in Europe a few years ago, although he was never able to settle at England. He didn't get many opportunities to play at Stamford Bridge and was constantly sent out on loan, so his progress wasn't as constant as the London club expected.

Kakuta never got a real chance with Chelsea

All of these things added up to the fact that Jose Mourinho didn't want him in the squad and now the explosive winger will leave the team for good as he's set to join Sevilla on a permanent deal, according to sources. The terms of the deal have not been fully disclosed.

Sevilla are coming off back-to-back UEFA Europa League titles and they have a lot of cash to improve their squad for the upcoming season, since they will now play in the UEFA Champions League. The team sees Kakuta as a perfect fit for the squad, both in his style of play and the fact that he's still a very young player, so he can continue to improve at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan.

Kakuta set to be Europa League winners' first signing

Sevilla released an official statement to confirm the signing of the 23-year-old and even though the deal isn't closed yet, it seems that will happen only on a matter of time. Kakuta will undergo all medical tests at Sevilla on Thursday and, if everything goes well, he will become the team's latest signing for the 2015-16 season.

Kakuta has had loan stints in several countries despite his young age. He has previously featured for English sides Fulham and Bolton Wanderers, for French outfit Dijon, at Eredivisie side Vitesse and he also played in Italy with Lazio. He spent last season on loan with Rayo Vallecano where he scored four goals in 23 appearances. While it's likely he would have to battle his way into the starting squad, he has the talent and the explosiveness to fit in perfectly in La Liga.
