Defending champions Barcelona are handed a tricky start to their 2015/16 La Liga campaign, as they will make the trip to San Mames to take on Athletic Bilbao on the weekend ending the 22nd August.

That league meeting will be the third game between the sides in a week with the Spanish Super Cup games between the two due to take place on the 14th August and 17th August. Last year's runners up Real Madrid will start their campaign away to newly promoted Sporting Gijon. The other newly promoted sides, Real Betis and Las Palmas start with Villarreal at home for Betis and Atletico Madrid away for Las Palmas.

Champions League qualifiers

La Liga will have five representatives in next season's Champions League with Sevilla and Valencia joining Barcelona, Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid and both sides start with road trips. Sevilla start with an Andalusian derby against Malaga and Valencia make the trip to Madrid to take on Rayo Vallecano.

The remaining fixtures will see Levante host Celta Vigo, Getafe travel to take on Espanyol, Deportivo La Coruna hosting Real Sociedad and Eibar, who received a reprieve when Elche were demoted, travel to Andalusia to take on Granada.

Notable fixtures

Other notable fixtures see the first Classico of the season taking place at the Santiago Bernabeu on the weekend of 8th November and the first Madrid derby will take place at the Vicente Calderon on the weekend of 4th October.

Barcelona's new signings Aleix Vidal and Arda Turan could make their debuts in the Derbi Barceloni with Espanyol hosting their city rivals on the weekend of 3rd January just days after the pair can officially be registered as Barcelona players when the winter transfer window opens. However, both will be unavailable to play away against their former clubs with Barcelona due to take on Atletico on the weekend of 13th September and Sevilla on the weekend of 4th October.
