The treble winning FC Barcelona side has left off South American stars Lionel Messi and Neymar of Argentina and Brazil respectively.

Manager Luis Enrique has left out the duo because of the fact that they have been competiting in the Copa America in Chile all last month.

Other South Americans come to the States

The only players now who are yet to return to training after the holidays besides Messi and Neymar is goalkeeper Claudio Bravo, who won the Copa America on home soil, Javier Mascherano, who with Messi, became runners-up in the tournament and Dani Alves whose side was knocked out in the quarterfinals.

All five players began their holidays much later than the rest of their team mates.

The only South Americans on that squad are Brazilians Rafinha, Adriano and Douglas and Uruguayan Luis Suarez, who was suspended for the entire tournament in Chile due to his biting incident in the FIFA World Cup in Brazil last year that got him a nine match competitive ban for the Uruguayan national team.

The performances of those five players throughout the Copa were great.

It was topped off though as the Chilean goalkeeper, Claudio Bravo, was named the best goalkeeper of the tournament.

There was heartbreak again for Lionel Messi and Mascherano as they finished runners-up once again having done the same last summer in Brazil in the World Cup Final.

Neymar, however, could not finish a major tournament again due to his red card in the second group stage match against Colombia and fellow Brazilian Dani Alves bowed out of the tournament on penalties in the quarterfinals against Paraguay.

The American business

The FC Barcelona first team has carried out their final training session on Friday before leaving for the United States.
