Reports say that Manchester United offered Sevilla the goalie in a deal but Unai Emery decided to turn down the deal for many reasons. It would have been a deal that would have brought him back to La Liga, his old stomping grounds, but there were many factors that made Sevilla say no.

Sevilla umoved by Valdes offer

First, Victor Valdes' wages would have been too much for the Spanish club to take on. Even though they are Europa League winners, they are still a smaller club and cannot afford the type of wages a team like United would pay Valdes. Also considering his age,33, Sevilla won't break the bank to bring him in.

Second, Sevilla have two quality goalies in Beto and Sergio Rico. Although Beto has been inconsistent in the past year and Rico still needs experience, they have had more playing time and are more of a fit than Valdes.

Because of this, it would not make sense financially for Sevilla to have three starting goalies on their wage books and given that both of their current goalies forms are decent and not costing as much as Valdes, the choice was simple.

Valdes's career on the decline

This has been a horrible couple of years for Victor Valdes. After tearing his ACL a couple of years back, he watched his boyhood club Barcelona replace him with Claudio Bravo and Marc Andre Ter Stegen and win the treble two years after. He also fell out with manager Louis Van Gaal at Manchester United and the Dutch coach said Valdes would never play for the club again.

Although he is 33 years old, Valdes can still offer a club some goalkeeping but his wages will be an issue. Many of the big clubs won't take on Valdes due to the fact that they have quality goalkeepers already and many of the smaller clubs can't afford his wages. It is really a lose-lose situation for Valdes.
