Diego Simeone will be desperate for his Atletico Madrid to get their European campaign back on track when they take on FC Astana on Wednesday night.

Altetico's electric start

It has been a great start to the new campaign for Atletico as they currently sit fourth in the La Liga standings, just two points behind leaders and bitter rivals Real Madrid. They even made a good start in the competiton with a impressive 2-0 victory in a tricky away trip to Turkish side Galatasray.

However, they were left shocked on the last matchday as they suffered a home defeat at the hands of Benfica. It seemed to be going well when Angel Correa opened the scoring, but goals from Nicolas Gaitan and Goncalo Guedes secured a 2-1 victory which saw Atletico's first home defeat in the competition since 2009.

Torres fears the unknown

Atletico prepared well for this game with a routine 2-0 win over a struggling Real Sociedad side with goals from Antoine Griezmann and Yannick Ferreira Carrasco increasing the pressure on manager David Moyes.

Despite that, Fernando Torres has stated his fears going into this match, saying that "on paper" Atletico were the "favourites" but went on to say that the lack of knowledge about their opponents could be a "real danger".

However the former Chelsea man said that Atletico have "focus" on themselves in such matches and must "keep the concentration" whilst approaching it with the "determination to win".

Astana's ambition

It has been a decent start to Astana's fairytale to the group stages of Europe's elite competition, they are the first side to represent Kazakhstan and it has been a long journey to get to this point as the trip to Madrid will be their ninth Champions League match this camapign.

After the tough qualifying process, everything was set up for a grand campaign, but it didn't quite to plan as they went down 2-0 to Benfica, however managed to impress the last time out as they managed to hold Galtasaray to a historic 2-2 draw.

However their form of late has been far from great as they have failed to win in their last five matches since the beginning of the month in the Kazakhstan Premier League and they won't be confident of a return to form here.

Team news

Luciano Vietto will be missing from the side after having his apendix out, which could give the opportunity to Torres to score his 100th goal in Atleti colours, with him expecting to be partnered by Griezmann - leaving Jackson Martinez on the bench. Koke should make a return after recovering from a thigh injury.

The away side will be without Ghanaian centre-forward Patrick Twumasi, who will serve the third of his four-match suspension. Fellow striker Baurzhan Dzholchiyev could be included, though, following his return to fitness from an arm complaint.

Atletico Madrid will host FC Astana at the Vincete Calderon on Wednesday, Ocotber 20 with kick-off at 7:45PM BST.
