Although Barcelona crushed Roma on Tuesday, an injury picked up by Barca midfielder Sergi Roberto put a damper on the game.

Roberto in top form for Catalans

With the exit of Xavi and the injuries to Rafinha and Andres Iniesta, Roberto was thrust into the Catalan lineup early on this season. He showed his worth to the league leaders through his versatility, and that he can play alongside the likes of Luis Suarez and Neymar. Roberto showed he can play any position from right back, midfield, and on the wings - which was where he started in El Clasico.

It was there where the Spaniard picked up his fifth assist of the season as he cut inside the Real Madrid defense and played the ball ahead to Suarez who finished with his outside foot for the first goal in El Clasico.

But his best game was against Getafe when he picked up two delicious assists, one to Suarez with a little flick of his backheel which the Uruguayan finished off. Then he played a long ball to Neymar which landed directly on the left foot for the Brazilian for the second goal of the game.

But he may be out for a while after spraining his ankle in a 6-1 Champions League win for Barcelona against Roma.

Future of the midfield solidifed?

Even with the injury to Roberto and fellow midfielder Rafinha, the future of the midfield is looking bright for Barcelona. Both players have shown that they can play in Luis Enrique's system and have produced for the club.

Barcelona have looked for options via the transfer market as they have been linked to the likes of Paul Pogba and İlkay Gündoğan but none of those deals have gone through or have picked up any steam.

Barcelona have two options about the future of their midfield. They can build through La Masia like they did with the likes of Xavi and Iniesta or they can go the Real Madrid and buy galactico midfielders.

It's a choice they will have to make soon.
