Malaga moved quickly on Wednesday to secure the transfer of Uruguayan winger Gonzalo "Chory" Castro less than 24 hours after he was released by Real Sociedad.

Los Boquerones have been struggling in front of goal this season and they will be hopeful that Castro can add some creativity to a side that have found the net just 13 times in 18 league matches. The Uruguayan will be glad to get an opportunity to play after a frustrating season with La Real where he started just one La Liga game and he joins a Malaga team that appear to have put their poor start to the season behind them.

Castro began his career with Nacional in his native Uruguay where he won three league titles before making the move to Europe in 2007. Mallorca was his destination and he made over 130 league appearances for the club from the Balearic Islands scoring 27 goals in the process.

After five years with Mallorca he moved to Real Sociedad where he made over 100 appearances in all competitions. Things turned sour in San Sebastian this season with Castro struggling for a place in the team and after 155 minutes across one start and seven substitute appearances both parties decided it would be best to terminate  the player's contract.

Castro will now begin the latest chapter of his career in Andalusia with Malaga who are currently 11th in La Liga (four places above Real Sociedad). Malaga failed to score in their first six league games and it took them eight away games to get a goal but they appear to have turned a corner now and have won their last four games in a row, two of which were away from La Rosaleda.

Castro should be a good addition to the squad and with one of La Liga's best defences behind him. If he can help the side score more goals, a top half finish is not beyond them.
