Nothing could separate Osasuna and Real Oviedo as the two sides ended their match at the Estadio El Sadar deadlocked at zero.

Roberto Torres caused havoc on the Real Oviedo defense all night long, using his creativity to create opportunities for his teammates while taking a chance or two of his own from everywhere around the penalty box. He was by far the man of the match as he was the most influential man on the pitch. Unfortunately, the only thing that was missing was his deserved goal.

Torres influential in opening stanza

Osasuna win a corner, 45 seconds into the match, Roberto Torres whipped in a ball towards the far post, it was headed clear, but not all the way out as Alex Berenguer blasted his effort well over. The hosts dominating the possession early on in the match, moving the ball crisply, being more adventurous in the final third of the pitch but have nothing to show for it yet.

For Oviedo, they had little chances throughout the match and one of the few half-chances came early on when in the 14th minute whenNestor Susaeta tried to send Kone clean through on goal, his pass though was not angled right and the Osasuna came off his line to stake away any danger that might have occurred.

There could have been a dangerous chance for the hosts in the 29th minute, but David Fernandez cut out a ball played back towards the middle of the area from the byline. In the 36th minute, Roberto Torres did well to get himself in a bit of space at the top of the box as he unleashed a tame effort straight into the arms of the Oviedo goalkeeper.

Torres was the man creating all of the chances for his side in the opening half and the best opportunity came with five minutes remaining. He sent a low cross towards the near post where Alex Berenguer made a darting run to get a touch on the end of the delivery, only for it to sail wide left.

Chances were sparce in second half

A dangerous free kick was won by Berenguer in the opening minute of the second half, just outside the 18 yard box which came to nothing in the end. For the first time in the match, Kenan Kodro got involved in the action as he sprinted out wide to collect a ball before it went out of bounds, then raced into the area and unleashed a vicious shot that was stopped well by Esteban in the 51st minute.

Roberto Torres played a perfect backheeled pass towards the path of Nino, 18 minutes into the second half. Unfortunately, the substitute could not finish off the move as he hit his shot straight into the midriff of the Real Oviedo number one.

In one of the last opportunities of the match, Osasuna moved the ball wonderfully before Torres hit a shot with his left foot that went wide of the near post by mere inches in what could have been the match winning goal.

With this result, the visitors moved into the final automatic promotion spot, jumping ahead of Cordoba based on goal differential. For Osasuna, they moved up one spot as well thanks to Alcorcon’s defeat yesterday.
