Atletico Madrid and Celta Vigo faced each other in the second leg of Copa del Rey quarterfinal. The teams went into this meeting at the Vicente Calderon with a 0-0 tie from the first leg and both had a fifty-fifty chance to reach the next round.

After 90 minutes, the guests caused a surprise with a 3-2 win over Atletico to reach the semi-final of the Spanish cup.

Quiet start in the stands and on the pitch

In stadium that wasn't at full capacity as referee Mateu Lahoz blew the starting whistle, the start of the game was as mild as the atmosphere in Madrid.

Atletico had the first chance with a shot outside of penalty area from Koke, which went wide of Rubén's goal. On the other hand, Celta Vigo with an even more quiet start - suffered from individual mistakes and a being a step too late in the tackle.

There was a  short moment of shock for the travelling away fans, after Lucas Vietto slid accidentally against Celta's 20-year-old goalkeeper Rubén, but the 'keeper fortunately managed to continue. Referee Lahoz booked the Argentine striker Lucas Vietto after this foul.

A few minutes later, the young keeper was in spotlight again, Saúl had a great chance to put his team in the lead, but Rubén came up trumps with a brilliant save.

They lived to regret their missedchances, as Celta Vigo scored from their first real chance. A cross by Fabian Orellana from a  corner found Pablo Hernández' head, and the midfielder headed the ball into Moyá's goal to bring Celta Vigo a very important lead after 22 minutes.

Only seven minutes later, a shot from Yannick Ferreria Carrasco was spilled by Vigo's keeper and Antoine Griezmann used the chance to score with the rebound and equalised for the hosts. After about 30 minutes the match was even more dramatic as first leg game and the viewer had seen one goal for each side.

Atletico was despite the equaliser forced to do one more goal, because of the away goal Celta Vigo would play in the semifinal and could reach it without a win over the Colchoneros. As the referee blew the half-time whistle, both went into the cabines and refuelled their tanks for the next half.

Atletico  fall flat on their faces

At the beginning of the second half, Celta Vigo changed their goalkeeper. Obviously 20-year-old Rubén couldn't play continue. Sergio Àlvarez replaced him and kept goal. The second half started as the first one has ended - Atletico unlucky in front of goal, and made to pay.

Just 10 minutes after the restart John Guidetti took control and hammered a shot from 30 yards perfectly into Moyá's goal, with the 'keeper having absolutely no chance to save the stunning shot from the Swede striker.

Once again the guests from came from nowhere to take the lead against Atletico, and they were really confident of their place in the semi when they scored again, not even ten minutes later.

After a throw-in wasn't dealt with, Pablo Hernández scored his brace and extended the lead to 3-1 for Celta Vigo. Hugo Mallo crossed the ball into penalty area, where the 29-year-old midfielder had no problems to head in again and made the game almost safe for the supposed underdog.

Atletico Madrid was definitely the better and especially dominating team in this meeting, but were also unlucky in front of the goal and way too unconcentrated in the defense, and on the other hand, Celta Vigo had enough luck in front of the goal and made the best out their chances and scored three times.

Correa gets one back

Angel Correa did manage to pull one back for the hosts with eight minutes left on the clock, scoring a superb solo goal which was too little too late.

The 20-year-old attacker, who came into the match in the 59th minute for Carrasco, couldn't help the team to initiate a fantastic comeback and late turnaround. With the final whistle by referee Mateu Lahoz, who made a good job, it was a done deal that Diego Simeone's team was eliminated by Celta Vigo in the second leg of Copa del Rey quarter-final after the first leg had ended with an undramatic 0-0.
