La Liga sides will face a tough test if they are to progress beyond the semi-finals of both the Champions League and the Europa League with Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid, Villarreal and Sevilla taking on Manchester City, Bayern Munich, Liverpool and Shakhtar Donetsk respectively.

Madrid are one step away from been given the opportunity to retain their 11th European trophy when they take on first-time Champions League semi-finalists Manchester City.

Madrid produced one of the great comebacks against Wolfsburg having been two goals worse off from the first leg but Cristiano Ronaldo produced his best form as his hat-trick managed to just send them through with the 3-0 win over their German counterparts.

City created some personal history on Wednesday night as a single goal from Kevin de Bruyne sealed their passage into their first European semi-final with the 1-0 win over Paris Saint-Germain. A decent performance in the 2-2 draw at the Parc de Princes set up a positive attitude at the Etihad Stadium and despite the penalty miss from Sergio Aguero, they sealed their passage with the Belgian's curled effort.

This wont be the first time that these sides have met in this competition as they met in the 12/13 group stage which didn't go quite to plan for City with a 3-2 defeat and 1-1 draw - Zinedine Zidane will be hoping for similar results this time around.

The first-leg will take place on April 26 at the Etihad Stadium with the second at the Santiago Bernabeu on May 3.

Atletico Madrid - Bayern Munich

Atletico Madrid will face a repeat of their 1974 European Cup final when they take on German champions Bayern Munich in the other Champions League semi-final.

Diego Simeone's side had a lot to do when they welcomed the current holders Barcelona to the Vicente Calderon after the 2-1 defeat in the first leg at the Nou Camp. However it was the night for Antoine Griezmann as his brace sent Luis Enrique's side crashing out at the quarter-final stage.

Munich just managed to scrape into the last four as they traveled to Portugal to take on a seemingly harmless Benfica side. A single goal from Arturo Vidal was the difference at the Allianz Arena but it was the home side that took the lead through Raul Jimenez before Vidal managed to bring it level just before the break.

Thomas Müller sealed their passage at the beginning of the second period but Pep Guardiola's side were left with a nervy 13 minutes when Conceicao Anderson Talisca equalised, but it was enough for Munich to leave the  Estádio da Luz with a semi-final position.

These two sides have only met on two occasions and it was on the biggest stage back in 1974 when a goal from Hans-Georg Schwarzenbeck denied Atletico the trophy the last minute of extra time which forced a replay which Munich comfortably won 4-0.

The first-leg will take place at the Vicente Calderon on April 26 with the second at the Allianz Arena on May 3.

Villarreal - Liverpool

Villarreal will be looking to dampen the spirits off the back of one of the greatest comebacks in Europe when they take on Liverpool.

Things were tight going into their second leg against Sparta Praha having just scraped the first-leg 2-1 but goals from Cedric Bakambu, Samuel Castillejo and an own goal from David Lafata gave them a easy passage into the semi's with a 4-2 victory.

Liverpool on the other hand just managed to secure their passage into this stage of the competition in style with a dramatic 4-3 victory over one of the tournament favourites, Borussia Dortmund. Goals from Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Marco Reus gave the away side the 3-1 lead after what looked a consolation from Divock Origi. However a late flurry of strikes from Philippe Coutinho, Mamadou Sakho and a late header from Dejan Lovren put them through.

The first-leg will take place at the Estadio El Madrigal on April 28 with the second at Anfield on May 5.

Sevilla - Shakhtar Donetsk

Sevilla will be looking to make history as they look to lift their third consecutive Europa League title with Shakhtar Donetsk the only side standing in the way of having the opportunity to achieve this great achievement.

It was another thrilling match in the last eight for Unai Emery's side as their tie with Athletic Bilbao went the distance with their opponents winning 2-1 on the night. It was even tenser penalty shootout but it was Kevin Gameiro who sealed their passage with the final penalty after Benat's miss.

They will face a tough test to retain the trophy once again as they take on a increasingly strong Shakhtar Donetsk side. The Ukrainian outfit had already beaten the likes of Shalke to get to the last eight of the competition and had an easy passage to this stage as goals from Darijo Srna, Viktor Kovalenko and two own goals from Ricardo Ferreira giving them the resounding 4-0 victory after their 2-1 win in the first leg.

The first-leg will take place at the Donbass Arena on April 28 with the second at the Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán Stadium on May 5.
