Kell Brook makes the first defence of his IBF World welterweight title on Saturday night against Romanian contender, Ionut Dan Ion.

Brook (33-0-0) won the title in August last year when he beat Shawn Porter in Carson, California by a majority decision but he has been inactive since due to a serious leg injury. Brook was in Tenerife with his family a few weeks after the Porter fight when he was stabbed in an apartment by a man he had been drinking with. Brook was left with damage to two muscles and thirty-two stitches on his left thigh. He has undergone treatment to repair the damage but it will be interesting seeing if there looks to be any adverse affects in his movement this evening.

Jo Jo Dan (34-2-0) as he is better known, has worked his way up the IBF rankings to become Brook's mandatory challenger with some key wins, most notably two split decisions against Canada's Kevin Bizier. Dan won't be expected to beat Brook but if Brook is still struggling from the injury he will be able to take advantage and could cause a huge shock.

Brook isn't the only one involved in a title fight in Sheffield on Saturday night. Gavin McDonnell (12-0-2) takes on Oleksandr Yegerov (13-0-1) for the vacant European super bantamweight title. Neither man has lost in their career but McDonnell has been in with a better class of opponent and will be expected to win.

Adam Etches (18-0-0) also defends his IBF International middleweight title against Sergey Khomitsky (29-11-3). Khomitsky has won just one of his last four fights and Etches will be expected to continue his rise up the IBF rankings were he is currently in the top ten.

Frankie Gavin (21-1-0), Stephen Smith (20-1-0) and Khalid Yafai (13-0-0) are also on the undercard in fights they will be expected to win but the main attraction will no doubt be the return to the ring of the home town hero, Kell Brook as he looks to put his past troubles behind him and get his career back on track.
