Win, lose or draw Andy Lee will retain his WBO World middleweight title after Peter Quillin failed to make the weight ahead of their title fight in Brooklyn, New York.

Quillin weighed in at 161.4 lbs and was given two hours to get down to 160 lbs but he was only able to get down to 160.8 lbs and the fight will now go ahead as a non-title bout.

Lee (34-2-0) was expecting to make the first defence of the belt he won with a sixth round TKO in December against Russia's Matt Korobov but regardless of what happens he will remain world champion. Lee comes into this fight having won his last six fights since losing to Julio Cesar Chavez Jr in 2012. In his last two fights Lee has found himself behind on the scorecards before knocking his opponent out and many expect if he is to beat Quillin he may have to do the same here.

Quillin (31-0-0) will be hugely disappointed not to have made the weight and therefore miss the opportunity to win back the title he vacated in September 2014. Quillin has been out of action for almost a year now since beating Lukas Konecny in Washington last April and he will be happy to get back in the ring but it will be interesting to see how he is affected by this setback.

There is another huge fight on the card between IBF Super Lightweight champion, Lamont Peterson and WBA Super and WBC Super Lightweight champion, Danny Garcia although none of their titles are on the line as the fight is at a catchweight of 143 lbs.

Peterson (33-2-1) comes into the fight having won his last two bouts since being stopped by Lucas Martin Matthysse in May 2013. He has come back well by beating Dierry Jean and Edgar Santana in his last two fights but Garcia will represent a huge step up in class.

Garcia (29-0-0) has dominated the Super Lightweight division in recent years beating the best the division has had to offer including Erik Morales (twice), Amir Khan, Zab Judah and Lucas Martin Matthysse. It is believed regardless of the outcome of this bout he will move up to Welterweight which could see him meet Floyd Mayweather, Manny Pacquiao or some of the other contenders in what is a loaded division.

There are plenty of other good fights on the undercard with Viktor Postol (26-0-0), Felix Diaz (16-0-0), Errol Spence Jr (15-0-0), Luis Collazo (35-6-0), Marcus Browne (13-0-0) and Prichard Colon (13-0-0) all in action but there can be no doubt that the eyes of boxing fans all over the world will be firmly fixed on the outcome of Lee vs Quillin and Peterson vs Garcia. On paper both should be excellent fights and with some of the top fighters in their respective divisions on display it promises to be an explosive night at the Barclays Center, Brooklyn.
