Josh Warrington produced a solid display to comfortably defeat Dennis Tubieron of the Phillippines to win the vacant WBC International featherweight title on Saturday night.

Warrington (21-0-0) dominated the fight in front of a sold out First Direct Arena, Leeds and scored 119 points on all three judge's scorecards.

Warrington who is from Leeds entered the arena alongside former Leeds United, Wimbledon and Wales footballer, Vinnie Jones to a rapturous reception from the Yorkshire crowd. The crowd never stopped cheering the local man throughout as he comfortably dealt with his opponent landing several heavy shots.

Tubieron to his credit showed a lot of heart but he was unable to land anything meaningful on Warrington. He took some great shots during the fight and continued to come forward instead of resorting to spoiling tactics and fully deserved to hear the final bell but there was never any doubt about the outcome of the fight.

Warrington will now look to continue moving up the world rankings and it is likely he will find himself in the top ten of three of boxing's governing bodies. Fellow Briton, Lee Selby was ringside to see Warrington's performance and if both men continue on their current paths a meeting between them will be on the cards and possibly even for a world title if Selby can beat Evgeny Gradovich in London on the 30th May for the IBF featherweight title.

On the undercard there were also wins for Tyrone Nurse (points over Liam Taylor), Martin Ward (Maxi Hughes retired on his stool after the fifth), Bob Ajisafe (second Round TKO over George Kandelaki), Reece Cartwright (fourth round TKO over Artur Sankowski) and Jono Carroll (points over Carlos Perez). However, there can be no doubt that the hero of the hour was the man that the crowd had come to see, Josh Warrington.
