Matthew Stevens completed a crushing 10-2 victory over Mark Williams on Wednesday afternoon to progress at the World Snooker Championships in Sheffield.

Stevens came into Wednesday's session leading 7-2 after a dominant display on Tuesday evening and he wasn't about to let his rival off the hook. Stevens hit a 115 break to go 8-2 up before securing an emphatic victory by taking the next two frames.

Stevens will meet five time time champion Ronnie O'Sullivan who dispossessed of his first round opponent in similar fashion, the Rocket winning 10-3 against Craig Steadman in another one sided encounter.

Joe Perry joins Stevens and O'Sullivan in the last sixteen after 10-4 win over China's Zhang Anda. Perry took a 7-0 lead in the opening session and looked like he could be on course for a whitewash but Zhang managed to avoid that embarassment and won four frames before finally succumbing to the Englishman.

Also on Wednesday Shaun Murphy and Judd Trump opened their matches against Robin Hull and Stuart Carrington respectively. Murphy built a 7-2 lead over Hull and Trump leads Carrington by the same scoreline.

Thursday will see Murphy (7pm)  and Trump (1pm) finish their matches as they aim to set up a last sixteen match with each other. Those matches will complete the first round and the second round gets underway with the opening sessions of Mark Selby v Anthony McGill (1pm) and Ding Junhui v John Higgins (7pm).
