Carl Froch vs Gennady Golovkin?

In the last day or so, talks regarding Carl Froch and Gennady Golovkin have taken a turn, instead of just hearsay without quotes, now both parties involved are speaking about the fight. Could Froch be a tempting enough proposition for Golovkin? Would Froch want to risk fighting Golovkin? Would Froch be a big enough name for people to take Golovkin seriously? Who would be landing another classic KO at Wembley out of the two?

Golovkin's promoter, Tom Loeffler talking to Boxingscene.com said of the rapidly-growing rumours surrounding the potential bout: “We’ve told Froch’s promoter, Eddie Hearn, that Gennady will go to 168 pounds to fight Carl in what would be a tremendous fight. But it is not clear whether Carl will retire or fight again.” With quotes from GGG's party, it makes the rumours seem even more likely to come to fruition.

Eddie Hearn, although talking the fight up - as you'd expect - is also quick to distance himself from definitive answers regarding Froch, echoing the sentiment expressed by Loeffler. Talking to The Daily Mail, he said: "I've now spoken with Carl directly about this and he is interested. I only want him to take it if he's genuinely motivated because it is a high-risk fight. But it would be massive and we can fill Wembley again. Given Carl's interest, we have already opened negotiations with Golovkin's people and they are very keen."

Golovkin seems keen too personally, judging by his official Twitter page RT'ing the news of the fight gathering pace behind it. Froch, also, seems genuinely interested, saying to The Daily Mail"If I fight Golovkin I will back him up, take what he’s got and beat him up."

Froch is one of Britain's finest fighters of this generation, but, many fans may would have been somewhat apprehensive about him seemingly on the way to retirement, before changing his mind for a last fight. But, when you factor in that he's now seemingly interested in fighting Golovkin as his last fight? It'd be a massive fight, but one, which as Hearn points out - Froch would need to be 100% in all regards to the fight, as even then, it would be an explosive fight. British boxing fans know that Froch isn't brilliant technically, and relies more on his true grit and rugged determination - but would that alone be enough to worry Golovkin?

There's only one way the boxing world will find out, and right now, we don't even know if we'll actually be treated to that answer.
