Amir Khan (31-3, 19 KOs) had his hands full at times in closer than expected unanimous decision win over Chris Algieri (20-2, 8 KOs) at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn this past Friday night.

Algieri came to fight last night and through the first half of the fight he landed some big shots. His newfound aggressiveness mad Khan uncomfortable and even rattled him a couple of times. The fight seemed even going into the second half.

By the latter part of the fight Amir Khan found his groove and changed his game plan by using his unearthly speed in both his feet and hands to score shots constantly against Algieri and ultimately cruise to a UD victory.

After this showing by Algieri, he showed that he is a respectable fighter who has moved on from his lopsided loss to Manny Pacquiao last fall.

The judges scored the fight 115-113  and 117-111 x2 all for Amir Khan.

Khan went 218 of 609 while Algieri landed 199 of 703 according to CompuBox.

After the fight, Khan called out Floyd Mayweather Jr. Khan stands as the #1 contender in the WBC rankings for Floyd's welterweight belt, though it is unsure if its been vacated like he previously stated after beating Manny Pacquiao in the Fight of the Century.

For a long time now Khan has been a favorite to fight against Floyd Mayweather Jr and prior to Friday's fight against Chris Algieri, he seemed to be the frontrunner to step into the ring against the top pound for pound fighter.

In the opinion of many, Khan needed to show a statement win against Algieri, but what we saw was a competitive scrap between two good boxers. Not a dominating preformance by a fighter who had us believe he was a notch below Mayweather.
