Miguel Cotto showed some real power in last nights bout in New York against his Australian challenger, Daniel Geale. Cotto though, wrapped the fight up within four rounds. Although Geale back on his feet after an explosive left hook - he shook his head when asked by the referee if he was able to continue. The bout was over, and Cotto continues his 'comeback' of sorts. Something that must go down to his training with Freddie Roach.

However, the talking point which has come out of the bout isn't as much Cotto's performance, nor Geale's, but - the post-fight quotes. Cotto's next fight had been widely speculated, and many believe it is all but made, but, to hear Cotto talking of his next fight being Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez is indeed very exciting.

Talking to HBO post-fight Cotto said; "Canelo will just be another fight...If the people want that fight to happen, it will happen." We all know that the fight will happen, but it's the confirmation of the fight taking place which is exciting. It means that Cotto will face Canelo before the year is up, meaning either man will face Gennady Golovkin in the new year. Extremely promising times in the Middleweight division then it would seem.

Cotto also touched on the possible bout with Golovkin when asked about him post-fight; "Why not? After the Canelo fight, we'll see." - It would have to happen, as it would be due to mandatory challenger, so it's one fight that Golovkin won't get ducked for. That much is certain. It will just be a case of waiting, and, in the meantime for Golovkin - fighting someone else to make another massive statement within the division.

Canelo's promoter, Oscar De La Hoya who was ring-side was asked about the touted fight, he answered; "It's a dangerous fight for both of them. Being ringside and watching the punches that Cotto threw, seeing his power, the way he went to the body and head, the way he was moving his feet, he's a dangerous guy for anyone. I believe in Saul completely, but that's a great, great fight. Cotto was very impressive tonight."

Freddie Roach also had a brief say on what will come next for Cotto; “I like the fight, I think it’s a good fight...Canelo is a young guy coming up and Miguel is a guy that’s getting better and better at what he does.” - Under Roach, Cotto has only gotten sharper, fitter and better as a boxer, so his part should not be understated when Cotto faces off against Canelo at some point later this calendar year.
