The men's 200 metres began on day 10 at Rio 2016 with the heats and there was one man who everyone came to see and he did not disappoint as Usain Bolt strolled into the semi-finals.
Bolt ran in the ninth heat of 10 and never looked like being challenged as the crowd loved every minute of it. The great news in terms of the Team GB competitors was that the trio of Daniel Talbot, Adam Gemili and Neethaneel Mitchell-Blake each successfully negotiated the heats.
Bolt strolls through to the semi-finals
Bolt, who won the 100 metres very easily on Sunday, began his defence of the 200 metres on Tuesday afternoon and he ran a decent time of 20.28 to win his heat without breaking a sweat.
All of Bolt's main competition for the medals also made it through pretty easily with his compatriot Yohan Blake, who has had a terrible time with injury in the last few years, qualifying with a great mark of 20.13 seconds.
Justin Gatlin is another favourite that qualified from his heat without any problems running 20.43 saving a lot in reserve. LaShawn Merritt, who usually specialises in 400 metres, was another who impressed with a fast time of 20.15.
All three Brits successfully qualify for the semi-finals
It turned out to a great afternoon for the three British athletes with Gemili impressing the most qualifying from his heat with a time of 20.20.
Talbot was the first Brit to get going in the first heat and he showed what he was all about qualifying in second place with a time of 20.27.
The last Brit to go was Mitchell-Blake in the final heat of 10 and he qualified second with a time of 20.24.
Other notable performances in the heats came from Bruno Hortelano and Nickel Ashmeade. Hortelano ran a very fast time of 20.12 to win heat two which was a national record for Spain while Jamican Ashmeade ran very well with a time of 20.15.
Gatlin and Blake likely to be Bolt's main competitors
One to look out for in the semi-final is Andre de Grasse who qualified quickest in the heats with a time of 20.09 showing that he has the pace to try and cause a surprise in the rounds ahead.
Realistically though Bolt has much more in reserve for the latter rounds with the likes of Gatlin and Blake likely to be the ones that will be in the medals with the Jamaican.
