As we live in a world full of electronic innovations, it's high time we see a fresh new intake in motorsport. This comes in the form of Formula E, all the thrills of Formula One, but with fully electric motors.

There are 10 teams, 20 drivers and 40 cars, the format is that each team will have 2 drivers and 4 cars, 2 for each driver. Every race will consist of 2 stints and 1 pit stop, the pit stop will mean the car's battery is low and that's when the drivers switch into their second car, which will be fully charged.

The car is called the Spark Renault SRT 01E, it's chassis is provided by Dallara and it's motor is designed and produced by McLaren, the motor from the E car is the same one which is found in McLaren's P1 supercar.

Every race is 45 minutes long. With there being one costless practice session in the early morning, followed by Qualifying in the late morning. There is no afternoon session as this is when the cars are recharged ready for the race in the evening. The points system is the same as in Formula One with:

1st = 25, 2nd = 18, 3rd = 15, 4th = 12, 5th = 10, 6th= 8, 7th = 6, 8th = 4, 9th = 2 and 10th = 1

Also drivers are rewarded 3 points for pole position on the grid, and 2 additional points are added for the driver who sets the fastest lap during the race.

The drivers who will contest the innagural season of Formula E are many familiar names, with the grid being a real who's who of former F1 drivers.
